What a fascinating trip this has been! Who would have ever guessed I’d be able to milk two weeks worth of posts from a silly picture of a bad Halloween costume? Who else but sci-fi fans could turn a quick chuckle into a raging ethical debate? I want to thank everyone who not only took part in the contest, but to those of you who shared it with friends, egged us on in the comments and appreciated the value of the unexpected twist. In the coming days my cohorts and I will be pontificating on lessons learned and insights gained as a result of all this tom-foolery, but for now we need to put on our tux, turn on the lights and hand out some trophies…
Once again I want to express my intense gratitude to everyone that took the time to Photoshop XXL Kirk. This contest has forever earned a spot in the Best of Darth Mojo and the images submitted will be putting smiles on people’s faces for… well, for the rest of eternity, basically. When you get right down to it, this blog is all about sharing the stuff that makes me happy – and nothing makes me happier than a team of nerds unleashing their warped sense of humor. I am honored and humbled to have inspired the creative energy displayed over the last two weeks and for that I salute the real reason Darth Mojo is a success – you, the readers.
And it is out of this universal appreciation that I cannot bare to choose just one reader as winner of the contest – I feel compelled to bestow the grand prize to all five of the finalists!
Call it love, call it generosity or call it the only fair thing to do in a contest which flagrantly disregarded anything even close to rules, I’ve decided to give an award – and their very own blog post on Darth Mojo – to all of the final five. Here are the winners:
ALL-TIME HIGHEST NUMBER OF VOTES EVER
The Horse by SRH (aka Pacimage)
Not only did SRH achieve 10,000 votes in a contest which had roughly 2,140 voters, he actually sat there and voted for himself 10,000 times – by hand. Some may call it cheating, but by any definition that, my friend, is determination.
Khaaaaaaaannnnnnn!!! By Capt. Jon
Long before the flood gates of lawlessness were opened, this entry was clearly headed for greatness. In fact, I have it on good authority that in the Mirror Universe (where there is no cheating), this image actually did win.
Action Figure by Adrian Patrick
Who says there is no honor among thieves? Mr. Patrick utilized high tech cheating software to not only raise his own stats, but to give everyone else extra votes. He wanted it to at least look like a fair fight. Leave it to the British to swindle you politely.
GREATEST SOURCE OF INSPIRATION TO CONTEST
Tribbles by Snazz
If good old Mr. Snazz hadn’t originally tried to “enhance” his vote count so publicly, I never would have been inspired to adopt the “Kobayashi Maru” rules, and thus would have ended another internet contest in the most predictable way: with a winner. Bo-ring!
FIRST GUY TO “GET IT”
Animated XXL Kirk by Church
This was the first entry in the contest to show some real creative thinking and was the favorite for quite a while. I think it’s a safe bet that this image forced everyone to up their game, so, for ultimately inspiring the other finalists, Church deserves a spot on the dusty shelf of honor!
So there you have it, folks! The XXL Kirk contest was a whirlwind of laughter and tears and has finally come to an end. Thank god. All five winners have been offered the chance to write their very own blog post and have it published here on Darth Mojo, so look for them in the weeks to come.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled irregularity…
