By now I’m sure you’ve heard the rumors that there may be some new, Razor-style DVD movies in Galactica’s future.  While no official announcement has been made, various sites have reported that NBC/Universal is currently mulling over as many as three new movies.  Since the series finale (which airs sometime in 2009) will bring the saga to a close, educated guesses suggest that these DVDs will take place in the past; but how far back?  Will there be more, untold stories that cover ground between the miniseries and the finale?  How about more backstory for the Final Five?  Perhaps we’ll see the return of Young Adama and the first Cylon War.  Would you like to see Husker turn more old-school Cylons into scrap metal?  I know I would.  Well, your voice can  be heard!  My favorite BSG site, Galactica Sitrep, is running a poll to find out what you  want to see.  I suggest you click over there right now and cast your vote (scroll down a bit and you’ll find the ballot on the right side of the Sitrep homepage).  And if you’d like to see more of our friend in the picture above… you know what to do.

Not that I don’t have faith in RDM, et al, I worry that in a world post-BSG finale that three extra movies may seem like … padding. I don’t know; that’s the best word I can come up with at the moment.

    Would I watch them?

    Frak yeah.

I really want to see more of the Cylon War- why it started, how it ended(but I guess Caprica will tell that). But more on the Final Five and how they got to where they are now would be cool too.

OT: but, scratch the sticker. I want one of these:

Did you guys have anything to do with that?

Incidently, do you have a nickname you use for the new-old Centurions? (One of the sites I frequent refers to them as “Larrys.” Long story.)

ety3: Padding? Have some faith in our writers! Besides, if they DO return to the first Cylon War, remember – that is completely uncharted territory – it would be like a fresh start with a lot of new characters and adventures. But with the Cylons you know and love!

Church: The Young Adama toys (aka Razor toys) were done independently. But they sure look great, don’t they?

As a matter of fact we DO have a pet name for the updated, “Razor” Centurions – we call them “those bad-ass original Cylons that everyone wants to see more of.”

I’m a big fan of the “Big picture” in BSG, so I’d love to see anything that furthers our understanding of the story. That means backstory for the Final Five, and backstory for all cylons in general. Though I know the Caprica series is going to cover some of that, so basically anything Caprica doesnt cover ;)

Though I personally would love for one of the movies to talk about peace-time Colonial Fleet…120 Battlestars…Scorpion Fleet Shipyards…imagine all the CG shots for those beauties :)

Oh…and since they are going to make up to THREE movies…my third choice would be a story that goes WAY back…back to Kobol!

I’m totally fine with BSG leaving the aftermath of the current series totaly up to our imagination. In fact, if the writers do a really good job, since BSG is a cyclic story and “all of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again” sort of thing, well, then we really wont need anything in the new cycle…if we understand the old cycle fully.

That is the beauty of the BSG story…it’s cyclic nature allows us to gain a large scope understanding, and yet it leaves a lot to our imagination.

If you haven’t done so already, you should definitely generate their proper model numbers, which should be consistent with the Cylon centurian [sic] model 0005 as seen on the “Cylon Specifications” sheet in the miniseries:

“Padding” may not have been the best word. I just have felt that some of the standalone stories for BSG weren’t as good as the arc stories (people point to “Black Market” as their least favorite; I dislike “Woman King” more).

No one knows at this point if any of the TV movies would be in the arc or relatively standalone. I’m sure RDM and crew would do a top-notch job, but I’m a worrier. It’s what I do.

Well i would love to see one on the cylons during the miniseries or a different battlestar’s story in it that eventually blows up at the end of the movie (Can just inmagine the cgi effects for a movie like that; would love to see more types of ships, mercurys, and Valkries fighting to the death against seasons 1 and 2 basestars and raiders swarming them.)

Another of the movies being anywhere between seasons 1 till end of 3 of say the galactica being on a mission to attack a cylon base or something. Would love to see how they manage to keep the mark 2 vipers in service like during the time season 1 was airing the sci fi website said that the flattop made viper 2’s. Well it would be cool if it made parts of the vipers or so etc.

If its on the fleet it would make sence if they fitted it in between episodes. Deffinately think it should be a standalone to the series.

Something that explained more about the known battlestars current battlestars including my favourite the Valkyrie would be cool, like the actual ships classes etc.

Well whatever they do i know il be watching them. Sorry if this was a bit of a rant.

    Wait a second, Mojo…

Young Adama? Don’t you HATE prequels?

  11. June 12, 2008 at 8:12 am

Whats wrong with a young Adama Steve? The actor who played young Adama in razor was just perfect at it.

    “Young Adama” isn’t a prequel, it’s a *sequel* to Caprica! :-)

I didn’t say there was anything wrong with Young Adama… just that some of us have a higher tolerance for prequels than others!

Well, Mojo, (Johnny Rico from TrekBBS, here), one of the three possibly DTV movies should definately be more ‘Husker’-era Cylon War stuff. Build upon what waws seen in ‘Razor’, but of course go back a little ways because that was basically the end of the first Cylon War, but you know that.

Anyway, for the other two, I’d definately go back and give us some more background on the skinjob Cylon models, and then the Final Five as well. If the viewer/fan could better understand when and where each of these skinjobs came into existance. Were they based on some regular citizens on the 13 colonies? or were they based on members of the lost “Earth” tribe?

And for the Final Five, are they the actual creators of the entire Cylon “race”? Centurion models included?

Of course, some of this may or should be answered within the “Caprica” series. I’ll tell you one thing right now though is that for this Caprica series to get any kind of ratings within the sci-fi community, it has to be more than just a soap opera taking place on Caprica and the colonies. It has to be about the creation of the Cylons and then perhaps the first Cylon War, and why the colonial fleets, ie. Battlestars, were built to begin with. Why build battleship/carrier-like ships if you’re not at war with anybody? Right?
